SISFU and CHED – Building Bridges for a Better Educational Landscape

Mr. Johnel Oliquino (JCU Country Manager), Dr. Nancy L. De Guia (SISFU EVP), Dr Melva M. Diamante (SISFU Academic Chancellor), Dr. Shirley Agrupis (CHED-NCR Commissioner), Atty. Lily Milla (CHED Director of International Affairs), Dr. Jocelyn P. Tizon (SISFU President), Ms Zheela Montecillo (SISFU Registrar).

In a recently held courtesy visit by SISFU to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), productive discussions took place concerning the strong government support in advancing transnational education initiatives in the Philippines.

Both institutions expressed their shared vision of fostering a thriving educational landscape that benefits both Filipino and international students. With the significantly lower cost of choosing a TNE education compared to studying at the campuses of foreign partners abroad, the Philippines is well-positioned to become a hub for transnational education. CHED’s support of SISFU will surely open doors for many students seeking quality international education closer to home.

The possibility of hosting a TNE forum was also discussed during the visit. This forum would provide a platform to discuss best practices, share experiences, and explore potential collaborations in TNE. By fostering dialogue and cooperation, SISFU aims to further contribute to the growth and development of TNE in the Philippines.

Another highlight of the meeting was the presentation of one of SISFU’s global educational partners, James Cook University (JCU) Australia. JCU’s country manager for the Asia Pacific region, Mr. Johnel Oliquino was present to discuss the diverse range of programmes for the Philippines. Beyond traditional programs like IT and business, JCU can introduce their innovative programs focused on capacity building, such as those related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The top 2% QS-ranked university is a welcome addition to the school’s growing number of recognized schools. CHED Director of International Affairs Atty. Lily Freida Milla expressed how she looks forward to SISFU’s partnership with JCU and guarantees swift approval of the programmes which will enhance the state of transnational education in the Philippines.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to meet and welcome Dr. Shirley Agrupis, the new commissioner for CHED-NCR.

SISFU continues to be the leader in transnational education in the Philippines with a growing list of partner institutions all over the world and over 1500+ graduates and counting. With strong partnerships with CHED – the country’s authority in higher education – SISFU continues to pioneer TNE efforts in the Philippines.
