Last May 19, 2025, SISFU took part in an event for a brighter, more sustainable future. Through Southville for Others (SFO) and a partnership with WomenBizPH and Liter of Light Foundation, the school sponsored “Light Forward: Lamp Assembly Session” at the Luxembourg Campus. The event brought together officers, students, faculty, and staff in a united effort to build 200 solar-powered lamps with the use of eco-friendly and locally-sourced materials.
Notable attendees included SISC leaders Dr. Gene Ledesma-Laurel, Dr. Jocelyn P. Tizon, Dr. Melva Diamante, Dr. Marie Vic Suarez, Ms. Cristina Aguilar, Ms. Astrid De Leon, and Ms. Jorge Balela, alongside the SFO team. They were joined by Liter of Light’s Mr. Illac Diaz, Mr. Arnold Laqui, and Mr. Ed Fernandez Jr., and WomenBizPH leaders Ms. Bing Limjoco, Atty. Lorna Kapunan, and Ms. Rhoda Castro-Caliwara.
The 200 lamps are part of a large-scale climate artwork installation entitled “Blue Lanterns” which may be viewed at Fort Santiago, Intramuros in celebration of World Biodiversity Day. After the exhibit, the assembled lamps will be distributed to off-grid communities across the Philippines in much need of light.
Through worthwhile partnerships with like-valued institutions such as WomenBizPH and Liter of Light Foundation, SISFU furthers its commitment to climate action, sustainability, and community empowerment. With continued support and hands-on work from members of the SISFU community, we work towards a brighter, more sustainable future for those in need
